World Relief provides mothers lifesaving information through our health education – teaching them how to prevent the spread of disease through hygiene and biblical principles, using our large volunteer network. We also work with local churches to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS through abstinence before marriage and fidelity within marriage, care for AIDS orphans and pastor awareness.
Life Changing Testimonies
Safina is an active participant in World Relief’s child survival program in the Karambe village of Rwanda, in the Great Lakes region of Africa. “When the program came here, I was curious and I wanted to know what they had to say,” explained Safina’s husband. “I expected it would lead to positive things, and it has. Things are organized, plates and cups are clean, and it smells and looks nice.”
Safina says that hygiene lessons have brought the most important and practical information so far. When she cannot afford the water-sterilizing agent sold through the government and strongly recommended by the program, she boils all the family’s drinking water. She now composts all the refuge, covers the latrine and uses a dish rack. Her children no longer suffer from diarrhea and they are vaccinated.
World Relief’s program has also contributed to a growing sense of community. Together, Safina explained, beyond sharing the experiences of the lessons, participants try to meet in homes to encourage each other and exchange ideas. They are bonding through the common goal of healthy children.
